SmokeLong Quarterly Flash Fiction Workshops - Manchester and Birmingham

Updated: Jul 27

Christopher Allen - the editor of SmokeLong - and I each have many strengths. Chris is an absolutely amazing singer. I make a really nice gin and tonic with gold shimmer and little raspberries floating in it. One thing neither of us are all that great at, though, is UK geography.

We'd been asked repeatedly over the past few months if we'd bring our flash fiction workshops to 'the Midlands', so we thought we'd set up a Twitter poll to see which cities in that great British area would be most accessible for the most people who were keen to come.

This is how we learned that Manchester is not, in fact, in the Midlands. People were pretty eloquent on this point, for a medium limited to 280 characters.

Chris is American and can't be expected to know these things, but for me it was super-awkward. We were, and will continue to be, very sorry. Once we'd sorted that awkward moment, though, we quickly filled places for our Birmingham (Midlands) and Manchester (non-Midlands) September workshops. We had an absolute blast. What a lovely, talented bunch of writers. We even found time for some karaoke, although for anyone who knows us, this will not come as a massive surprise.

Thanks so much for coming, you awesome bunch of humans. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
